Significant success everywhere!

Significant Success

We were part of the initial pilot for the Jigsaw PSHE scheme. At the same time, I was asked to begin our school's journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School.

What struck me straight away was how beautifully the two linked. Each of the Jigsaw pieces are matched with specific articles and this makes it easy to link the two areas together in classroom activities.

All classes really enjoy using Jigsaw and the updated content means that it is so relevant to being a child today. Each Jigsaw character sits in a special place in the classroom. The Calm Me sections of each lesson are a firm favourite.

Impact of Jigsaw

Now that we are working towards our level 2 RRS status, it means that Jigsaw sessions that specifically mention the rights are woven into our classroom practice. Pupils often talk about the importance of rights for all children and understand that they are ambassadors for rights.

Our classes have charters written by the children and staff together. Lunchtime staff are involved in writing the dining hall and playground charter in consultation with the children. This is an annual process as it is vital that the charters reflect the needs of the children. Starting a new school year in September by writing the charters gives our Milton pupils real ownership over their charters.

Jigsaw allows us to be real global citizens by thinking of the needs of others and by celebrating difference.

The SRE section of Jigsaw was very well received by parents when a meeting was held to show them the content of the sessions. When it was policy writing time, the fantastic Jigsaw team supported us as a church school to rewrite the PSHCE policy to reflect the updated content.

Looking forward

Jigsaw will continue to support our children as they move through the school. As we continue to embed our Rights Respecting Schools status, the partnership with Jigsaw will flourish.

The Jigsaw website keeps us up-to-date and knowing that the team at Jigsaw are there to answer any queries is a real asset.

We love Jigsaw!
