Keeping Children Safe in Education – September 2019 Update

Key Changes

We know that Jigsaw PSHE plays a vital part in a school’s safeguarding provision. To support schools, we have produced this summary of the main changes to the Keeping Children Safe In Education (KCSIE) guidance.

Download the KCSIE updateAll schools, and all adults working in, or on behalf of the school have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. This includes:

  • Responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn
  • To identify children who may be in need of extra help or who are suffering, or are likely to suffer
    significant harm
  • All staff then have a responsibility to take appropriate action, working with services as needed

Therefore, all schools must ensure they follow the guidelines presented in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

Ownership and compliance of KCSIE remain the first focal point of all inspections. The attached document provides the recent changes in KCSIE that schools should be aware of and some ‘top tip’ suggestions that will support safeguarding practice.
