Jigsaw 3-11, the mindful approach to Health and Well-being, is an integrated scheme of learning, for personal, social and health education, with particular emphasis on emotional literacy, mental health, social, moral, cultural and spiritual development.

Jigsaw provides teachers with detailed, weekly lesson plans and all the resources needed to deliver an engaging and relevant, spiral Health and Well-being curriculum.

Furthermore, Jigsaw fully supports schools in fulfilling Donaldson’s 4 Core Purposes, as feedback from children and staff in our Welsh schools using Jigsaw Programmes is already demonstrating.

With mindfulness philosophy and practice woven throughout, Jigsaw is a unique, progressive and effective scheme of work for this area of the curriculum.

The Jigsaw 11-16 Programme will launch early in 2019.

Jigsaw addresses the needs of children today

Designed as a whole-school approach, Jigsaw aims to equip children for life, helping them really know and value who they are and how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world.

Inspection Framework

Jigsaw is attractive, clearly laid out and looks very teacher and child-friendly. Staff like the Jigsaw characters and structure of the lessons. We feel the whole school assemblies will help us develop our school community ethos. The 'Calm Me Time' is an excellent idea and will further support and develop the Mindfulness practise already in the school.

The Jigsaw Structure

in greater detail
Jigsaw consists of six Puzzles (half-term units of work) containing six Pieces (lessons) for each academic year. Every Piece has two Learning Intentions, one specific to PSHE outcomes and the other designed to develop emotional literacy and social skills.

Jigsaw equips children to thrive in today’s world, building resilience and self-esteem and helping them understand real issues e.g. body image, cyber and homophobic bullying, and online safety.

Every Puzzle is launched with a whole-school assembly and an original song. Each year group studies the same Puzzle at the same time, at their own level, (sequentially building through the school year), facilitating whole-school learning themes.

All year groups participate in an end-of-Puzzle outcome, e.g. a display or exhibition (like the Garden of Dreams and Goals) shared and celebrated by the whole-school community. The teaching and learning activities are varied and mindful of different learning styles and the need for differentiation.

Jigsaw, the mindful approach to Health and Well-being, has a unique lesson structure through the Primary Phase, designed to maximise the learning process.

The Early Years planning is aligned to the Welsh Foundation Phase Framework – See right/below.
